In the past few years, Samsung has come a long way in maintaining its high reputation in Q1 of India. According to India Display Screen Import Data, each year, the country imports 77 million smartphones from China due to the lack of manufacturing potential in the country. After the beginning of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan in 2020, Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi AdityaNath met Ken Kang who leads Samsung. With brief knowledge of what went on in that meeting, Samsung declared to expand its domestic value in India by investing over 4.8 Crore INR. Without a doubt, the mission behind such a large investment appeared as if Samsung is threatened by India’s in-country manufacturing smartphone brands like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava, Intex, and i-Ball.

One of the major reasons for Samsung CEO to come forward and transmit its complete display manufacturing unit to Noida, India is fascinating. In 2020, when the Government of India banned 59 Chinese Mobile Applications due to the allegations that these apps sell customer data at large, the citizen’s anger towards Chinese brands was explicit.

Not only this but in early 2020, Smartphone retailers and importers also decided to boycott Samsung without acknowledging the fact that Samsung is a korean company. As a consequence, in the same year, Samsung’s global market ranking dropped down to second which left Xiaomi at the top. Henceforth, it is crystal clear that Samsung is trying to make up for China's faults and grab its position in the Indian Market.

What does India Import Data speak of Samsung?

From early 2010 to till this date, India’s Smartphone industry is influenced by Chinese manufacturers. “Made in India” Smartphones like Micromax are not going anywhere, except the lower ranking every day. With such a tight grasp on Indian Market, will Samsung ever take a step back? The answer is NO. According to India Display Screen Import Data, it imported a bulk of LED screens from Chinese manufacturers in early 2021 to meet the demand of consumers.

However, with Samsung shifting its manufacturing unit to Noida very soon, it seems like Samsung phones will soon be on the top-shelf, yet at cheaper rates. According to Samsung manufacturing data, it manufactures over 800 million Smartphones in a year. Meaning, with a large display manufacturing unit open in Noida, Samsung will also contribute to decreasing the unemployment rate in Uttar Pradesh, which is 6.9% approximately.
